Edgewood Jr./Sr. High shines as Brevard Academic teams compete in final championship

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Over the past six weeks, 13 high school academic teams have competed against each other in quiz-style competitions for the chance to participate in the final championship event that took place this month.
Six teams representing the following schools qualified as finalists to compete for the championship:
■ Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High school
■ Edgewood Jr./Sr. High school
■ Episcopal Academy of the Holy Trinity
■ Melbourne High School
■ Rockledge High School
■ West Shore Jr./Sr. High school
Edgewood Jr./Sr. High triumphed as both the championship winner and the season winner. After Edgewood in the championship event, West Shore took second and Cocoa Beach third. Additionally, Cocoa Beach placed second for the season, with Holy Trinity placing third.
The Brevard Academic All-Stars were also named during the Championship event:

■ Phoenix Boggs, Edgewood Jr./Sr. High school
■ Jon Want, Edgewood Jr./Sr. High school

■ Giancarlo Valdivia, Episcopal Academy of the Holy Trinity
Alternates: José Montalvo, Episcopal Academy of the Holy Trinity; Matt Krininger, West Shore; Nate Horton, Cocoa Beach
Coaches: Mr. Sean Johnston, Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School and Mr. Mike Prince, Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High school
The Brevard Academic All-Stars will form a new team representing Brevard County and will work in preparation for the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge, a slow-paced tournament that will test competitors in the fields of language arts, math, science, social studies, fine arts, world languages, physical education, health and technology.
The Commissioner’s Academic Challenge is a statewide competition taking place at Disney’s Coronado Resort from March 31 to April 2.
