HOPE scholarship initiative offers tuition-free education

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Hollins University has launched a new scholarship initiative.

Hollins Opportunity for Promise through Education offers grantees the opportunity to attend college full-time for four years, tuition-free.

This scholarship program is intended for residents of Virginia living within a 40 mile radius of campus.

Mary Dana Hinton University says that currently 12% of the student body comes from the Roanoke Valley. She says the university is eager to extend this opportunity to young women in the region.

“This is truly a great opportunity to support the ambitions and potential of students here in our home community,” Hinton said Monday.

Interested applicants must be currently in their final year of high school and be admitted to Hollins for the fall semester 2022.

Applicants must also submit the FAFSA to the university by January 1.

“There is so much here for a young woman and I am really excited about HOPE as a vehicle to share this with more young women,” said Dr Ashley Browning.

HOPE Fellows may take advantage of other opportunities at Hollins, including study abroad, internships, and the Batten Leadership Institute.

Currently, the tuition fee at Hollins is $ 39,360. The HOPE scholarship would save more than $ 157,000.
