JCC student named 2021 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Fellow | Education

WATERTOWN – Omar A. Gonzalez Sanchez, a major in business administration from Jefferson Community College, Fort Drum, is one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa members to be named the 2021 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Fellow. also accompanied by a scholarship of $ 1,000.

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship program helps new Phi Theta Kappa members cover their tuition fees when enrolled in associate degree programs. Fellows are encouraged to take on leadership roles by participating in Phi Theta Kappa programs and are selected based on their academic achievement, community service and leadership potential. Over 900 applications were received this year.

“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding community college students,” Jane Hale Hopkins, president of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, said in a statement. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to enable more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and to support tomorrow’s leaders in the global community. “

A total of $ 207,000 is awarded through the Leaders of Promise scholarship program. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation provides funding of $ 200,000 for scholarships, of which $ 25,000 is reserved for members who are veterans or serving members of the United States military. The remaining amount is funded by donations to the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation and provides seven Global Leaders of Promise scholarships, which are intended for international students.
