Judges needed for the Academic Decathlon – The Vacaville Reporter

Speech and interview judges aged 18 and over are required for the Bay Area Academic Decathlon, hosted by the Solano County Office of Education.

The event is virtual, so you can volunteer from the comfort of your home.

The event includes 20 high schools from across the Bay Area. More than 200 high school students will participate in the regional competition.

The Academic Decathlon is a competitive event inspired by the Olympic Games to stimulate academic success and honor “athletes of the spirit”. The competition offers high school students the opportunity to participate in an educational forum that fosters a deep respect for knowledge, cooperation and self-esteem.

Like the decathlon of the ancient Greeks, the Academic Decathlon consists of 10 demanding and exciting events. But while the Greek events were competitions of physical strength, the Academic Decathlon is a competition of academic strength. The Academic Decathlon includes tests in Art, Music, Literature, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences and Social Sciences.

Additionally, there are communication tests that include writing an essay, delivering a prepared and impromptu speech, as well as an interview.
