MIASA Workshop on Women’s Academic Careers in Africa 2022 (Funded to Accra)

The Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (MIASA) is calling for applications for its workshop on Women’s Academic Careers in Africa which is being held September 7-9, 2022 in collaboration with the German Historical Institute of Paris (GHIP) and the Center for Studies and Gender Studies. Advocacy (CEGENSA) at the University of Ghana (UG).

The workshop provides time and space to discuss the challenges and opportunities for women in academia in African contexts. Participants from Ghana and other African countries will be accompanied by a professional coach through different modules that address the issues of how to build effective teams, how to manage university hierarchies, how to resolve conflicts in the workplace and how to proceed with academic training. career with multiple time constraints. The workshop explores professional relations in academic practice.

Coaching aims to help participants define their own style of work and leadership, but also to reflect on how to adapt to different contexts and challenges. The overriding objective is to encourage early and mid-career female academics in Ghana and other African countries to further develop their careers, develop strategies to maintain a work-life balance that enables them to thrive in their research and academic work, and prepare for leadership positions and/or other professional opportunities.

Costs

  • MIASA covers the travel costs of the participants (economy class flight, only mandatory covid-19 tests, local transport, accommodation).

Eligibility

  • Open to early and mid-career female academics who are affiliated in the social sciences and humanities with universities or research institutes in Africa.
  • Applicants must have a Ph.D.
  • They are open to a wide range of disciplines and particularly appreciate candidates working on one or more of MIASA’s main research themes.
