Scholar-Athlete of the Week Abbey Herod
Since then, Herod has been a force on the lacrosse field. Even in her freshman year, the environment of older players didn’t slow her down. She won 1st Team All-County straight away and later again her junior year.
“It’s really important for me to improve,” Herod said. “And I look up to some people and I like college athletes, and I try to be as good as them.”
One of those athletes is his brother, who plays varsity lax. This made her get up.
“And he always pushed me like from a young age trying to compete and he’ll take me out to do it if he wants to play, I have to go with him to class,” Herod said.
In class, she has an A+ average, juggling two sports. This is not a walk in the park.
“Obviously I have to do my homework before I can go to practice, like in my free time, like volleyball and stuff like that,” Herod said.
This system has worked for Herod so far. This helped lead her to Boston College the next year, where she will continue her lacrosse career.
“Crazy,” said Herod. “When I got the offer, I was like blown away and it was just me. It all came back to me, all the hard work that I put in. It was just amazing to see it all, like, work for me.”
Now she will seek to start all over again. Congratulations to Canandaigua’s Abbey Herod for being this week’s News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
