After a stellar week in the circle, including two comprehensive wins over Wisconsin last Saturday (April 9), the sophomore southpaw Tori McQueen was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday, April 11.
McQueen dazzled in three appearances last week, pitching two innings in relief and giving up no hits or walks while striking out three batters and picking up two comprehensive wins over the Badgers en route to a series sweep. In Saturday’s doubleheader, McQueen pitched 14 innings in two games, allowing just two runs on five hits and one walk (no walks in Game 1) while striking out 16 batters (13 in the first game). In total, McQueen pitched 16 innings last week, allowing just two runs on five hits and one walk with 19 strikeouts.
McQueen leads the Illini in ERA (2.32) on 81.1 IP, with 104 strikeouts this season. She is the first Illini pitcher to be named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week since Sydney Sickles won the honor twice last season.
Tori is from Mooresville, Ind., and majors in kinesiology.
