Section III to Honor Top College Athletes – Oneida Dispatch

At the end of each school year, Section III Athletics honors its member schools and their top senior athletes who have excelled both in the classroom and on the field. The Section III Varsity Athlete Awards presented by Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast celebrate the accomplishments of the Section’s top varsity athletes and recognize the accomplishments of each student. The top male and female varsity athletes from each of the 106 Section III schools are honored with a $100.00 scholarship, plaques and a memorial program. This year’s program will award over $25,000.00 in college scholarships to our outstanding high school student-athletes on Monday, June 13 at 6 p.m. at the SRC Arena. This year’s dinner will be broadcast live on the NFHS network. The Section III Scholar Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the organization. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 90% or higher and competed varsity in a Section III sponsored sport. Additionally, other factors such as community service, exemplary citizenship, or other extracurricular activities are considered. Twenty-eight of our 179 Scholar-Athletes are ranked #1 in their class, and 145 of the 179 Scholar-Athletes are ranked 10th or higher in the respective class.

This program was launched in 1988 under the leadership of Otis Sennett, Andy Jugan and Jake Morse with the aim of honoring academic and athletic excellence. Since the creation of this prize, more than 4,500 students have been rewarded with this tribute. A complete list of 2022 scholarship-holders is attached.

Section III is proud to support these student-athletes as they complete their educational experiences. We recognize the value that athletics play a vital role in the high school learning experience.
